Every year Northmarinas organises an international crossing to make this form of the Way of St. James known to European sailors and to PROMOTE THE LOCALITIES in which it stops<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In 2015 Northmarinas asks the Cathedral of Santiago to o\ufb01cialize the Camino de Santiago by Sea, thanks to the history, a year later this form of pilgrimage is approved by the Cathedral, who \ufb01rms an agreement with Northmarinas for the sealing of the credentials and accreditation of the 100 nautical miles required to get the Compostela. Every year, Northmarinas organises an international crossing to raise awareness of this type of the Way of St. James and the towns where it stops, and in 2026 it celebrates its 10th edition.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

On the 5th of June 2026 we will leave from La Rochelle in France and sail along the entire north coast of Spain, from Hondarribia to Santiago de Compostela. This cultural and sporting event extends over 27 days on our tenth anniversary. There are 19 stages sailing and 7 days of rest and sightseeing, and a last stage is walking.<\/p>\n

\n

In this 10th edition, we promote the TWINNING and the exchange between the different localities in which the crossing stops. The twinning protocol will be signed in Gij\u00f3n during the rest day in the city. All relevant actors will be invited to the event.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

In addition, every year from Northmarinas we promote gender equality in the maritime sector and we align ourselves with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

The carbon footprint is an environmental indicator that reflects the amount of greenhouse gases (GHG), expressed as CO2 equivalent, which is emitted directly or indirectly as a result of a given activity.<\/p>\n

The aim of the study is to take as a basis the carbon footprint obtained at the end of the VIII Sailing Tour The Sailing Way, on 29 June 2023, in order to draw the appropriate conclusions to implement a strategy to reduce CO2 emissions based on energy efficiency, saving raw materials, etc., as well as to disseminate and implement best practices for our next Sailing Tour in 2024.<\/p>\n

Since Bishop Godescalco (the first documented pilgrim, around 950), and later the legendary Duke William of Aquitaine, went on pilgrimage to Santiago in the 12th century, the most of the millions of Jacobean pilgrims in the world have done the Way on foot, mainly following the French Way.<\/p>\n

However, the reality is that the first Way was made by sea, and this was done by the disciples Theodore and Athanasius bringing the body of St. James the Apostle, according to tradition, in a “stone boat”.<\/em><\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n
